WCR issue of Feb. 8, 2010
Pope Benedict reacts against proposed repressive legislative in Britain by urging the British bishops to stay involved in public debates. The British government proposed restricting the right of churches to turn away candidates for the ministry on the grounds of sexual lifestyle or gender. But as the WCR goes to press, it appears the government has backed down.
This week’s WCR also has a feature article on parish websites and an article on rising Canadian Catholic musician Matt Maher.
The approach of the Winter Olympics is also generating news. The Canadian bishops have spoken out against human trafficking, which some believe is being used to feed the sex industry at the Olympics. A cheerier article looks at the life of Msgr. Jerry Desmond, the pastor at Whistler’s Catholic parish.
As well, a new series of articles on the Holy Spirit is launched on the WCR’s back page. Check out the WCR at www.wcr.ab.ca or expect it in your mailbox some time next week.
