WCR Sneak Preview

Last issue until mid-January

At the Western Catholic Reporter, we’re taking our annual Christmas break and our office will re-open on Tuesday, Jan. 5. The next issue of the newspaper will be dated Jan. 18, 2010.

In the meantime, however, we believe we’ve left you with what we hope is a special issue to tide you over into the New Year. Topping the list of stories this week is our annual Worker in the Vineyard Award, which this year goes to school chaplain Sandra Talarico. Sandra is involved in a myriad of diocesan and parish activities and leads many of them. Ramon Gonzalez’s story tells you why she is a worthy recipient of the Worker in the Vineyard Award.

The Dec. 28 WCR also brings news of the approval of a miracle attributed to Brother Andre, the founder of St. Joseph’s Oratory in Montreal. Next year, Brother Andre could become the second Canadian-born canonized saint. Who was the first? Read the WCR to find out.

Other news this week includes an obituary on a beloved priest, Father Tom Kroetch, the announcement of a new bishop for Saskatoon, and the text of Mother Agnes Mary Donovan’s talk at the last Nothing More Beautiful session. There is also a remembrance of the 25 years of charismatic prayer breakfasts held in Edmonton.

Many other stories are worthy of your attention too. You can see them at www.wcr.ab.ca or in your mailbox sometime between Christmas and New Year’s. Have a blessed Christmas and a great 2010.
