Oblates look to the future

Father John Malazdrewich, 50, is the new provincial superior for the Oblates of Mary Immaculate in English Canada. With an aging membership, the Oblates foresee a rapid decline in numbers in the coming years. How will they respond? Will their charism of bringing the Good News to the poor attract new members? Read about some of the questions the Oblates face in the Dec. 7 Western Catholic Reporter.

A much smaller order in Western Canada, the Pallotines, are turning over their local ministries from the German to the Indian province. In Calgary, a recent parish mission drew attention to Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati’s remarkable attraction for young people.

In Edmonton, this year’s Christmas Eve collection in many parishes will again go to No Room at the Inn, a local endeavour that every year provides funds for housing the homeless. Also, internationally known author Megan McKenna shares some of her thoughts about Advent.

As well, Anglican pastor Dale Lang continues his mission of preaching forgiveness and overcoming anger. Lang’s son, Jason, was murdered in a high school shooting in Taber 10 years ago.
